Put your headphones on and tune in to the silvery silk voice of Mr Alfie Sharp. His recent single, ‘Nostalgia’, has been stuck in my head for weeks and reportedly reached Number Two on iTunes following its release in October last year.
The song soundly demonstrates Alfie’s vocal agility with an abundance of melody and riffs. ‘Nostalgia’, he says, means a great deal to him because it was composed during a time when he was very ill and didn’t think he’d be performing again.

The lyrics are deep, soulful, and mature, while remaining open enough to apply to all sorts of situations. Watch the video to see Alfie performing this particular tour-de-force after another stunning song, ‘Creative Inhibition’, which is more upbeatand when released is going straight on the playlist I listen to whilst walking – the gay pace playlist. A song for summer.
Alfie unquestionably has rhythm on his mind, and this song speaks to an indigo mood. Fish must swim. Birds must fly. Artists must create. So many things can interrupt your inspiration and disturb your peace. For any artist, this can be doubly derailing and far more frustrating than most people realise. Utter exasperation. It’s infuriating.
Artistic inspiration often comes from pain and disappointment, but when you physically or mentally can’t bring yourself to do the things that bring you joy and help to alleviate that suffering – it can be devastating. It’s wondrous and wonderful when we see someone turn this into art. Pure creativity.
